Why NRI families need more than Google Drive
A shared drive stores files. It does not know that a passport expires in six weeks, or that an Emirates ID renewal window has opened. A family document vault is a different tool with a different job.
Passport expiry can quietly cancel your visa
A UAE residence visa is tied to a valid passport. Airlines refuse boarding on passports with less than six months of validity, and renewals through BLS or the Indian Consulate in Dubai are not same-day. Missing the window is the most common reason families end up in an urgent renewal.
Emirates ID lapses cost 20 AED a day and block services
An expired Emirates ID attracts a daily fine and stops working across services that check it — from renewing a driving licence to opening a bank account for a child. ICP does not send a personal reminder. LegacySave does.

How LegacySave works
Three steps, then the app does the tracking for you.
Scan once — we read the passport MRZ and Emirates ID number for you
Point your camera at the passport bio page or the front of an Emirates ID. LegacySave parses the machine-readable zone and picks the ID number out of the card format. You do not type the number, the name, or the expiry date. If a scan is not clear enough to read, the app tells you so instead of guessing.
We track every expiry and email you 90, 30 and 7 days ahead
Every document has an expiry. LegacySave stores it, watches it, and emails the responsible family member three times before it lapses. We track and we remind. Governments renew — we cannot renew a passport or Emirates ID for you.
One family, one vault, one responsible member per document
Invite your parents, spouse and children. Each document has one responsible member, so a reminder about your father’s passport reaches the person who will actually book the appointment. A monthly digest summarises what is due next quarter.

Passports, Emirates IDs and driving licences
Indian passports, UAE Emirates IDs and driving licences from either country. Custom fields for visa entry dates, sponsor names and residence file numbers.

Attested and un-attested certificates for school admission, dependent visa renewals and family sponsorship paperwork.
Multi-page Indian passports with bio and address pages
An Indian passport is not one page. LegacySave stores the bio page and the address page as a single document, so the address change from your last renewal is one tap away.
Security you can verify
A vault for identity documents has to earn trust in specifics, not adjectives.
AES-256-GCM encryption at rest — files are never plaintext on disk
Every file is encrypted before it is written to storage. Cloudflare R2 holds only ciphertext. The keys never travel with the files.
Self-hosted OCR — your passport image is never sent to a third-party AI
Text extraction runs on servers we operate ourselves. OpenAI, Google Cloud Vision and Azure never see your passport photograph.
Face ID app lock with 60-second auto-lock
The app locks behind Face ID on open, and re-locks after sixty seconds in the background. A borrowed phone at the dinner table does not become an open passport folder.
UAE PDPL-aware data handling
We handle personal data with the UAE Personal Data Protection Law in mind, alongside GDPR for European storage and the Indian IT Act for our Indian users. Details are in our privacy policy.

Roadmap: beneficiary access for surviving family members
A family document vault should still be useful when the person who set it up is no longer here. Designated beneficiary access is on our roadmap — a spouse or adult child will be able to reach the documents through a verified process, not a password.

Common questions
Is LegacySave a family document organizer app or a cloud drive?
A family document organizer app, not a general drive. It only stores identity and family documents, and it adds expiry tracking, family roles and self-hosted OCR that a drive does not.
How does the Indian passport expiry reminder work?
On scan, we parse the machine-readable zone on the bio page and store the expiry. You are emailed at 90, 30 and 7 days ahead. Reminders reach the family member marked as responsible.
Does LegacySave handle Emirates ID renewal reminders for my parents in Sharjah?
Yes. Invite them to your vault, scan their cards, and mark yourself as responsible. You will get the 90, 30 and 7-day emails so you can book the ICP renewal on their behalf.
Is my passport safer here than in a Google Drive folder?
Files are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before they touch our storage, and text extraction runs on servers we control instead of a third-party AI. Both are choices; this is ours.
Can LegacySave renew my documents for me?
No. Only ICP, PSK, BLS and the Indian missions can renew your documents. LegacySave tracks the dates and reminds you in time to act.
What happens to my family’s documents if I delete my account?
Your files are removed from storage, not just hidden. See the retention section of our privacy policy.
