LegacySave

Help and Support

Answers to the questions we hear most from families using LegacySave to keep passports, Emirates IDs and other identity documents in one place.

Getting started

Creating your account

Download LegacySave from the App Store, open the app and sign up with your email address. You will set a password and confirm your email. There is no social sign-in — email and password only.

Setting up Face ID app lock

Open Settings inside the app and turn on Face ID app lock. The app then locks automatically after 60 seconds in the background, and Face ID is required to re-enter. If Face ID fails, you can fall back to your device passcode.

Inviting your first family member

Go to the Family tab, tap Invite, choose the relationship (parent, spouse, child), and enter their email. They install LegacySave, accept the invite and join your family group. You stay in control of which documents are shared.

Scanning documents

How the passport MRZ scan works

The passport photo page has a two-line machine-readable zone at the bottom. LegacySave parses it deterministically — document number, full name, nationality and expiry date come straight from the code, not from a guess. The issue date is not part of the MRZ, so we ask you to confirm or enter it.

Emirates ID front-of-card scan tips

Place the card on a flat, matte surface. Fill the camera frame with the front of the card, keep it level, and avoid glare from overhead lights. The scanner reads the 15-digit ID number in the format 784-YYYY-XXXXXXX-X. If it will not read, tap Enter manually — accurate data matters more than a fast scan.

Scanning multi-page Indian passports (bio + address page)

Indian passports carry the personal details on the bio page and the address, spouse and parents on a separate page at the back. When you add an Indian passport, choose two pages, then scan the bio page first and the address page second. Both pages are stored under the same document and open together in the viewer.

Why we could not read your document clearly

If you see an amber banner saying we could not read the document clearly, the scan came back as low quality — usually blur, glare, a partial frame or a poor angle. Tap Retake to try again in better light, or tap Enter manually to type the fields yourself. A saved document with the correct number and expiry is more useful than a fast scan with the wrong data.

Expiry reminders

When reminders are sent (90 / 30 / 7 days)

For every document with an expiry date, LegacySave sends email reminders at 90 days, 30 days and 7 days before the date on file. We track and remind — the issuing government renews. We do not guarantee that every email will reach every inbox, so please add reminders on your phone for anything critical.

Assigning a responsible family member per document

Open a document, tap Responsible member, and pick a person from your family group. That member receives the reminder emails alongside you. This is how many families let the child in Dubai carry the reminder load for a parent living in India, or the other way around.

Editing an expiry date manually

Open the document, tap Edit, tap the expiry date, and pick a new date from the native picker. Save. The reminder schedule recalculates automatically — the next 90, 30 and 7-day emails will fire against the new date.

Family sharing

Adding parents, spouse and children

From the Family tab, invite each member with their email and their relationship to you. Children under 18 are usually added under a parent account — you manage their documents on their behalf and can pass control over later. Parents living in India can be invited the same way.

Removing a member and what happens to shared documents

Open the family member's profile and tap Remove. They lose access to the family group and to any documents you shared with them. Documents they added themselves remain in their own account. Nothing is deleted from your vault.

Editing a family member's role

Open the member's profile and tap Edit. You can update their display name, relationship and photo. Roles inside a family group are simple: an owner (you) and members. There are no admin sub-permissions in V1.

Security and privacy

How your documents are encrypted

Every file is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it is written to storage. OCR runs on servers we control — your passport image is not sent to any third-party cloud AI. Read the privacy policy for the full detail on what we collect and why.

Where your files are stored

Encrypted files are stored on Cloudflare R2 in the EU-West region. Metadata (your account, document titles, expiry dates) is stored in a managed Postgres database. Keys and access are held by LegacySave and are not shared with any advertising or analytics provider.

Deleting your account and everything in it

Open Settings, tap Delete account, and confirm. Your documents, images, family links and account are removed from our systems. This is final — please export anything you need first.

Billing and subscriptions

LegacySave is currently free while we finish the V1 launch. If a paid tier is introduced later, existing users will be told in advance and current documents will remain accessible. Anything you already scanned stays yours.
